Polyester FDY Yarns

Abbreviations:

SD = Semi-Dull, FD = Full Dull, RW = Raw White

Polyester FDY is short name for Fully Drawn Yarn. FDY yarns are also recognised as SDY (spin drawn yarn) in different countries. Polyester FDY yarns are made of Polyethylene terephthalatic acid (PTA) combined with mono ethylene glycol (MEG),  extruded at high speed direct from chips into filament yarns.

Our production facilities employ Barmag Wings™ FDY lines, ensuring highest quality and speed. Polyester FDY yarns have three lustres; Bright, Semi-Dull and Full-Dull. Most common cross-section in FDY yarns are round, trilobal and flat.

Flat cross-section FDY yarns have +, -, pentagonal, hexagonal, octagonal filament cross sections when looked under microscope.

Polyester FDY yarns most widely produced in Raw White colour, whereas solution dyed or dope dyed colours such as Black, Optical White, Yellow and others are available.

Polyester DTY yarns are used in;

– Weaving as weft insertion yarn (non or slight intermingled)

– Weaving as warp yarn (sized or intermingled for warping)

– Circular knitting, weft knitting and warp knitting

– Narrow weaving and braiding

– Other semi-technical applications

Havvafil™ covers other special use functional Polyester DTY yarns such as:

– Low dyeing temperature FDY yarns. These yarns dye at lower temperatures offering cost savings and lower carbon emissions.

– Cool Yarns ( Quick Dry yarn): Due to capillary formation during texturising Cool Yarns offer enhanced water permeability and allows quick drying of fabric surface. Often used in active sportswear where sweat evaporation is vital with skin contact. Hometextile and footwear also uses quick dry yarns.

– SSY Yarn:  Side by side yarn or T-400 is inherently elastic yarn and is an alternative for covered yarns. It is used in apparels where elasticity is highly required.

– Conjugated yarn: Composed 80/20 Polyester/Nylon conjugated yarns similar to Sea island yarns offer microfilament upon chemical fabric treatment. Available in 50D/36F*12 up yo 600D/144F*12 .

Polyester ITY (intermingle texture yarn) is combination of FDY and POY yarns. Having different boiling water shrinkage properties, FDY and POY contributes to an interesting yarn structure commonly used in sateen fabrics and womenswear fabric to eliminate physical post weaving processes to achieve peach skin effect.

ITY yarns commonly have 2 types;

– One step ITY yarn

– Two step ITY yarn

ITY yarns are used mostly as weft insertion in weaving with high twist or low twist ITY yarns as warp in weaving.

Characteristics of ITY fabric include;

+ Soft feel

+ Good elasticity
