POLYESTER ATY YARNS
POLYESTER ATY YARNS
Polyester ATY yarns offer cotton like feel while including functionality and characteristics of Polyester. Air jet texturising technology enables loops that make ATY yarns bulkier than DTY yet offering whole new dimension for carpet and fashion industry.
ATY is short name for Air Textured Yarn and technology of air jet texturising is used in production of ATY yarns. POY is used as feed yarn similar to DTY production however no heat extrusion and cooling is applied in ATY technology.
In contrast to even crimp formation in DTY, ATY yarns are formed millions of loops making it bulkier and more voluminous compared to DTY.
For this reason ATY yarns are used in natural fibre look demanding applications. ATY yarns in fine deniers are costly compared to DTY equivalents however 300D and above price is comparable to DTY.

Polyester ATY Properties
Polyester ATY yarns have;
– Coton-like feel due to hairy surface structure formed by air jet loops. ATY yarns are also recognised as spun yarn like within continuous filament yarn group.
– ATY maintains advantages of filament yarn such as; wrinkle resistance, easy care, colour fastness etc.
– Wide rane of fiber options. ATY technology can be applied to Polyester, Nylon, Polyproylene, Glass and Carbon.
Critical part of ATY yarn is loop formation. Loop frequency, bulkiness, loop stability are important parameters that define ATY yarn quality.
Polyester ATY Applications
Common end uses ATY yarns find way are;
– Upholstery fabrics (automotive)
– Carpets and floor coverings
– Fashion wear (cotton like requirements easily met by ATY)
– Military textiles where cotton like feel and good fastness is required
